Bracco Italiano Overview

Originating in Italy, this ancient dog breed was highly prized by the aristocracy for their ability to hunt feathered game. The Bracco Italiano nearly became extinct during the early 1900′s, but the breed was revived by Italian breeder Ferdinando Delor de Ferrabonc. The Bracco Italiano is extremely rare in the United States.

They is active, energetic, and affectionate. The breed does not like to be left alone for extended periods of time or be ignored. They are intelligent, agile and vital dogs. Although bred for hunting, they also make excellent companion dogs. This breed is not recommended for novice dog owners.

This dog breed requires regular brushing with a firm bristle-brush to remove loose and dead hair. To preserve the natural oils of the coat , the dog should only be bathed when absolutely necessary. It is important to check and clean the ears regularly. They are prone to bloat, hip dysplasia, eye problems and ear infection.
