Curly Coated Retriever Overview
This dog breed is one of the oldest retrieving breeds. The Curly Coated Retriever was developed in England and was preferred by English huntsmen who admired their gentle retrieving capabilities. This dog breed is extremely popular in New Zealand and Australia, but is quite uncommon in the United States and difficult to acquire. This breed is affectionately known as the “Curlie”.

This dog breed is not suitable for apartment living. The Curly Coated Retriever thrives on outdoor activity but also makes a wonderful indoor companion. This breed does best in a rural setting where there is ample room to roam and run. The Curly Coated Retriever needs an above average amount of physical exercise and mental stimulation. This breed both enjoys and excels at swimming, tracking, retrieving, agility and competitive obedience events.
