A dignified breed that is imposing in appearance. The Argentine Dogo breed originated in the 1920′s and was developed as a fearless big-game hunter. Additionally, this dog breed has been utilized in police and army work and as guide dogs. The Argentino Dogo is an excellent family guard dog. The reputation of this breed as been tarnished by their involvement in blood sports and in 1991 the Argentine Dogo was banned in Britain under the Dangerous Dog Act. They are also banned in Australia.
Argentine Dogo Characteristics
With a unique white coat, extraordinarily powerful jaws, and intense expression, the Argentine Dogo is a muscular breed of Mastiff proportions. This dog breed is very intelligent, brave and mentally stable. Unprovoked aggression or cowardice is considered to be an extreme defect.
Argentine Dogo Temperament
This dog breed is unsuitable for a novice or first time owner. The Argentine Dogo is an especially dominant dog who requires an experienced handler. It is crucial that these dogs be soured from ethical and respected breeders who can prove a stable temperament in the puppy’s linage. Argentine Dogo’s are loyal and dedicated to family and make excellent guard dogs. This breed gets along well with most other pets, especially those they are brought up with. Argentine Dogo’s are also good with children, but should never be left unsupervised. Potential owners should be aware that this breed may be targeted for banning laws.
Argentine Dogo Care
This dog breed requires weekly brushing is to remove loose and dead hair. To preserve the coat’s natural oils, the Argentine Dogo should only be bathed when absolutely necessary. Special shampoos, suitable for white dogs are available. This breed requires frequent nail clipping. The Argentine Dogo is comparatively healthy, though deafness and hip dysplasia can occur.

The Argentine Dogo thrives on vigorous exercise. This breed is not advisable for apartment living. They are best suited to a securely fenced yard. Argentine Dogos are a good walking and jogging companions, provided they’re securely leashed and muzzled when in public.
